School Age Childcare
We provide Before School Care for children 5 to 12 years old that are picked up by Guilford County Schools transportation.
We provide After School Care for children 5 to 12 years old. Hester's buses transport students from selected schools in our area to our program. Guilford County Schools transports students that attend in our district and magnet schools to Hester's. Our afternoon schedule includes a healthy snack, physical motor/outdoor activities, quiet/home work and Interest Center time. Students may attend all day when Guilford County Schools are closed for teacher workdays and holidays. Each day is packed with options to keep children involved.
Our environment is designed with lots of choices for children. Interest Centers have a variety of materials in science/discovery, language/literacy, problem solving, building, drama, games, art, music & movement. Students may choose to play a game, talk with a friend, or relax in the quiet area. We know after an instructional day indoors, children need to move and get fresh air. Our playgrounds are equipped with space for group games, vigorous physical activity as well as gardens for natural experiences.
Our teachers use their knowledge of school age children to plan fun, educational experiences for them daily. They may pose a question or problem to the children and provide the materials to solve it. Our teachers direct group games and discussions about topics of interest related to community, culture or our world. Financial Literacy, building, crafts or cooking projects occur and can be on going. Some activities are child initiated while others are teacher directed. Activities allow school age children to socialize, play and work together under guidance and watchful eyes. Our energetic teachers relate and interact positively with school age children to encourage them to be their best.
