Back To School Transition Tips
WOW!! Where did the summer go? All Parents ask this
question as August ends and September begins. In June it seems as
if you have a long time before homework, early morning schedules,
packing lunches and early bedtime begins. What a relief to be able
to have a relaxed schedule if only for a short period. Summer comes
to an end too quickly and it is time to re-wind and change
schedules.
Children also feel this freedom and enjoy the extra time. It is difficult to "switch" gears for us as well as the children. We as adults must keep in mind that children take longer to adapt to new schedules. There are some things we can do to help the transition that will make life easier for the family.
- Begin earlier bedtime before school begins.
- Have children take their bath and relax by reading stories to them or for older children read from their favorite chapter book.
- Use dinner time as family time and have each member tell about their day.
- Make school important in your family.
- Give younger children space to display art work.
- Visit your child's school during open house.
- Allow children to help shop for school clothes and supplies.
If your child is moving from Pre-School to "BIG SCHOOL" he/she will need time to adjust to new rules and schedules. Please be patient as this will take time and your support.
School Days are some of the best days for children and families and whether your child is in childcare or "Big School: it is certainly a "Family Affair."
